Honestly, I think it’s just because Bastian is dating PJ. Like, he probably feels betrayed, because they used to be best friend’s and that’s his little brother. Also, when he was still alive, Bastian probably never showed any romantic interest in PJ, so he probably assumed nothing would come out of PJ’s crush, so he was like, okay, well as long as Bastian doesn’t do anything, it’s fine. But now, after his death, 3 years later, he has to find out from Chainey that his old best friend, who he trusted, is now dating his little brother, who he’s overprotective of. And I think that’s why he’s so angry.
Bastian crossed a line you’re not supposed to when you’re friends, and that’s don’t date their older or younger siblings. That’s usually the reason for a lot of drama between friends in forms of media like television, movies and books. And again, being PJ is his little brother, and Davey’s super protective of him, he’s not a happy camper.
Also the 3 year age difference is probably another reason he’s ticked off. Maybe he thinks Bastian will try to take advantage of PJ and make PJ do something he’s not ready to do
(which we all know won’t happen, because honestly, I’m pretty sure PJ would be more of the initiator in the relationship and Bastian would never do something PJ didn’t want to do, and even if PJ wanted to do something, Bastian seems like the type to wait til PJ is older. I don’t know, maybe it’s just me, but even though they’re dating, and they might kiss and go on more dates in the future, I don’t think Bastian sees PJ in a sexual light (at least, definitely not now, or anytime soon. Romantic, possibly; remember they’ve only been together for less than 2 days, so even the romantic feelings might still be young and weak right now with Baz). Honestly, I think just holding hands for that boy is enough for him XD.
Sorry for the long rant, but I guess what it can all be summed up with is: Davey doesn’t like that his old best friend is now dating his younger brother, and being that Baz was around PJ alot more when Davey was still alive, Davey probably thinks Baz was planning this all along. Even though he wasn’t, and I’m sure Davey knows that. But Davey is just too much in Big Brother Overprotection mode. Davey is basically a shotgun dad.
As an older sibling, can attest that if I had turned into a secret aware zombie as a teenager and my best friend started dating my lil’ sis with me unable to interfere, I’d be roaring pissed. Partially because *I* was dating my best friend, but mostly because overprotective older sibling instinct is a very real thing and I don’t trust any of my friends on behalf of them being my friends.
I feel like davey has grown so much as a character. A couple of chapters back he would have just run straight over there and given Bastian a piece of his mind but he’s actually thinking more now, even if the instinct is still there. He’s kind of maturing, i think.
