it’s kind of the long-shottiest of long shots but I always wonder if Chainey told Davey that Parker’s “with his boyfriend now” [meaning Bastian, after Parker/Bastian kissed for the first time] because he knew that this is exactly what would happen and that Davey would react by cutting off someone he care(s?)(d?) about
I know your all justifiably mad but this is kind of heartbreaking, not just because Davey’s lost a good chunk of his faith in humanity but because what it says about how he perceives himself. While considering himself separate from the mindless he seems to consider himself a zombie ergo a “monster”.
Why that’s bullshit. Aware-kinds most problematic feature: going feral, but what is it? So far as I can tell it’s starvation at at least 3x fast-forward. Forget human cannibalism, starvation as a cause for violence is a tale as old as time. Half the plot of Les Mis and a good deal of histories social upheavals in general were because there was no food and/or the poor could not afford it.
Davey’s biggest problem is that he seems to be struggling with a punishingly black and white moral framework in setting that is both grey and bleak. Also he’s not terribly bright or good at asking for help. It’s a fucked up coming of age story for someone I pray is more able to grow up mentally than he is physically.
RIP Bastian’s heart, may Davey find his sense again. Damn, I thought the Sam thing would fix itself up relatively soon but that’s not the case. I completely underestimated how much Davey’s trust was damaged.
