Chainey doesn’t know Bastion is one of Davey’s old friends so who Baz is can’t be what your talking about. He has no reason to think anythings sketchy about the situation that I can see, so not that either. Is it that ominious laughing that could lead to something needing explaining.

Guys. Guys, look at the hovertext. I don’t even know what the fuck that’s all about because this is one of the most beautiful pages so far. All the pages are beautiful! But I was just thinking how this one’s super gorgeous.

Ahh thanks guys! I have a huge issue with the stark white comparison against the darker purple frames but I couldn’t see another way out without a cheap gradient, and the white is sorta important so. Glad you like it anyway <3
I can understand why that would cause art cringing–it causes imbalance in the composition, and might draw attention to itself before the rest of the page is read properly because it’s such a large, bright expanse in this layout, which might cast an early unsettling gloom of foreshadowing on the warm fuzzies if the page is only read once (lbr though we’re all reading it multiple times I mean just look at how cute and sweet and d’awww).
But then, that’s also kind of how that “filter” is supposed to be. It’s NOT a happy place, not by a long shot, and it coming in all like “fuck this fuck that fuck y’all”–even going so far as to extend that to the artistic context of the page–adds another layer of discomfort for readers. Looking at the page objectively, yeah, it throws things off–but when you consider it in context with the story and what it means, the way it stands out and clashes with the mellow tones is perfect.
I can’t think of any other way to have it set up, either–a gradient would look kinda weird, and so would having the last panel fading into it (you know, like a reverse gradient). I guess you could have something from the previous panel merge and swoop and drip into it…but then, doing that (kinda like the first time we saw this happen) would imply the warm fuzzies being were sucked up into the filter. If Owen’s not watching, that would send the wrong signals. This way is ambiguous, and leaves us all wondering what the heck is going on, so I think it looks great.
TL;DR: that last panel is doing exactly what it should be doing, I think. Lovehate it the way we lovehate Owen, yo. <3
Oh my god I just noticed this but the second to last panel. Bastion calls PJ peej. The only person I have seen so far in this comic call Parker Peej was Owen. Take that how you will, but I’m not sure Bastion is Bastion anymore…
On the bright side if that is Owen, I don’t think he actually wishes PJ harm so they both should be fine. Physically. Is he gonna unload the WHOLE concept of Awares at there feat (& in Bastions case that Davey is one) or something diabolical like that.
Or ya know it could just be scene change to what Owen’s doing right now. Far away from them.
